Opening Rules

My chess is evolved bit by bit from my childhood. When I started playing chess at the age of 10, I donno the rules. I was playing with our own customized rules like moving pawn backwards, 15 move draw etc. But when playing tournament in school, I got to know the rules. After that without knowing much in chess, like openings, strategy, end games etc. I was just playing the games with understanding opponents move and planning the strategy.

Chess is not a simple game. Its a vast sea. There are plenty of concepts are there. Now I started learning the concepts, here is one of them.

Here is Reuben Fine's 10 rules for opening,

  1. Open with either the e-pawn or the d-pawn.
  2. Wherever possible, make a good developing move which threatens something or adds to the pressure on the centre.
  3. Develop knights before bishops.
  4. Pick the most suitable square for a piece and develop it there once and for all.
  5. Make one or two pawn moves in the opening, not more.
  6. Do not bring your queen out too early.
  7. Castle as soon as possible, preferably on the king's side.
  8. Play to get control of the centre.
  9. Always try to maintain at least one pawn in the centre.
  10. Do not sacrifice without a clear and adequate reason, eg.:
    • it secures a tangible advantage in development
    • it deflects the opponent's queen
    • it prevents the opponent from castling
    • it enables a strong attack to be developed

Chesscube!!!

I have tried many online sites. So far chesscube is ok. It has nice user interface by Flash. To load the page, it takes considerable time. We can maintain ELO rating and view our games.

Remember! Nothing comes as free lunch. Chesscube has lot of bugs!!!. I have faced the following interesting bugs,
  • When my machine synchronized with time server, the game was concluded that I am forfeiting
  • When the opponent disconnected, the game was concluded that I forfeited by disconnection
  • The clock was not decreasing for opponent. Only my clock was running.
  • Once the opponent move was appeared in my move and after that the game hanged. Me and the opponent unable to make any move. In my machine opponent's clock is ticking. In my opponent's machine my clock is ticking

My first game in Sicilian Dragon

After learning Sicilian Dragon, I tried Dragon in my game whenever I was playing black. But the variation is changed and I didn't get the dragon. But this is the first game, where the opponent played exactly the dragon white moves. I was too much excited and this my favorite game in chesscube. Try the GUI like Arena to view this game.
